November 6, 2026 | After Market Tape

The Nasdaq Bounced. The Dow Didn't Buy It.

Friday index changes

165,000 jobs, a chip rebound and a divided market. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.09% on Friday, but the Dow fell 237.33 points. One green session did not erase Thursday's AI selloff: the S&P 500 still finished the week down 2.7%, its worst week since April 2025 (AP).

A rebound, not a reset

The S&P 500 gained 23.13 points to 7,376.86 (+0.31%), the Dow fell 237.33 to 51,285.73 (-0.46%), and the Nasdaq Composite rose 264.43 to 24,579.42 (+1.09%). AP and Fox Business independently reported those closing levels.

Chips recovered some of Thursday's losses. Fox Business reported the semiconductor index up 4.2%, with AMD up about 11% and Nvidia 2.8%. That semiconductor index is not the SOXX ETF, which rose +3.53% in the delivered Robinhood snapshot. The distinction matters after Thursday's 12.25% Philadelphia Semiconductor Index drop.

The labor report gave investors another rate question. October nonfarm payrolls rose 165,000, unemployment was 4.1%, and average hourly earnings rose 0.4% month over month and 3.1% year over year, according to BLS. Combined August and September payroll revisions added 84,000. Fox Business reported a 65,000 payroll forecast. Stronger hiring complicates the case for easier policy; it does not by itself prove why every index moved.

The winners weren't the whole market

Mag 7 closing marks

In the 4:41 PM ET Robinhood closing-mark package, Tesla rose +4.21%, Nvidia +2.80%, Meta +0.83% and Alphabet +0.75%. Microsoft fell -1.01%, Apple -0.53% and Amazon -0.33%. These are broker marks, not a claim of consolidated official last-sale prices.

AMD rose +11.04%, Intel +7.71%, Micron +5.03% and IREN +20.02% in the same package. The bounce was meaningful, but Friday's winners did not restore all of Thursday's losses.

Earnings still separated winners from losers

Standout stock closing marks

Airbnb rose +11.69% and Cloudflare +9.89%, while Atlassian fell -16.09% and DraftKings -21.30% in the delivered closing marks. These are Friday's marks, not Thursday's after-hours or Friday's premarket moves.

CNBC's earnings report explains the split: Airbnb beat sales and earnings expectations, Cloudflare's outlook topped expectations, Atlassian projected declining data-center revenue, and DraftKings missed revenue expectations.

Next week's test

  • Tuesday, November 10, 8:30 AM ET: October CPI, on the BLS release calendar.
  • Tuesday, November 10, 5 PM ET: CoreWeave's third-quarter earnings call, confirmed on its investor calendar. No unverified consensus EPS carried here.
  • Monday's question: can the chip recovery survive another session, or was Friday only a partial repair? The S&P 500 ended the week with a loss despite Friday's gain.
