The chip wreck paused on Election Day: the Nasdaq-100 rose 0.68% and the semiconductor ETF rose 2.50% as AMD gained 3.78% into its print — then AMD beat after the bell (non-GAAP EPS $2.09 vs $1.95 LSEG consensus, revenue $13.38 billion) and jumped 7.13% in extended hours, while Apple and Palantir pared their post-earnings slides and Shopify cratered 8.74% on a revenue and GMV miss.
Recap
Tuesday reversed Monday's pattern. At the official closes SPY rose 0.31% to $754.40 and QQQ rose 0.62% to $685.34 while DIA fell 0.44% to $517.04 (Robinhood closes; the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.38% to 51,786.72, AP) — the S&P 500 index printed 7,568.92 (+0.36% vs Monday's 7,541.40), the Nasdaq-100 printed 28,180.26 (+0.68% vs 27,989.82), the Russell 2000 rose 0.23% to 2,812.45 and the VIX eased 1.51% to 20.83 (Robinhood index quotes, ~4:30–4:35 PM ET).
The day's macro print argued for resilience, not cuts: September JOLTS job openings jumped 333,000 to 7.523 million vs 7.100 million forecast, layoffs fell to the lowest in a year and a half, and factory orders rose 1.8% (Reuters/BLS via SRN News; MarketOne Closing Bell).
Chips led the bounce after two brutal sessions: the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose 2.50% to $464.99, Nvidia rose 2.23% to $206.56, Broadcom rose 3.06% to $332.09, Micron rose 2.59% to $855.19 and Intel rose 0.88% to $60.50 (Robinhood closes).
AMD rose 3.78% to $484.50 into its after-close report — and the report landed: third-quarter revenue of $13.38 billion (+44.6% year over year) and non-GAAP EPS of $2.09, beating the $1.95 consensus (AMD press release via GlobeNewswire; LSEG consensus via CNBC), and the stock was up 7.13% in extended hours to $519.05 (Robinhood extended-hours mark, 4:31 PM ET pull).
The earnings reactions from Monday night kept fading the other way but pared their losses: Apple fell 1.95% to $331.72 (from -4.04% extended hours overnight) after its holiday-quarter gross-margin guide of 45%–46% landed below the 46.3% analysts expected on higher memory costs (Associated Press via MarketSpeaker), and Palantir fell 1.64% to $175.41 (from -8.05% extended hours) even after revenue nearly doubled, as contract bookings grew just 6% (MarketSpeaker).
Crypto firmed with risk: Bitcoin's Robinhood evening mark was $77,890.01 (+1.40% vs its open) and Ether's was $2,296.32 (+1.91% vs its open).
Mag 7 and movers

The day's earnings movers ran both ways: DuPont leapt 8.68% to $153.56 and Eaton rose 6.98% to $391.61 on morning beats (Robinhood earnings calendar: DuPont $2.09 vs $1.87 estimated, Eaton $3.68 vs $3.55), Oracle rose 5.87% to $126.22, CoreWeave rose 7.13% to $53.73, Nebius rose 7.21% to $151.58 and Coinbase rose 5.61% to $145.56 (Robinhood closes). The red side was led by Shopify, which cratered 8.74% to $142.56 after third-quarter revenue of $3.74 billion came in just under the $3.75 billion estimate and gross merchandise volume of $119.15 billion missed the ~$120 billion forecast, despite a $0.49 EPS beat (CNBC/StreetAccount via SourceFirst News) — and by Match Group, down 8.37% to $38.55 after its third-quarter EPS miss and lowered fourth-quarter adjusted-EBITDA guidance (EPS miss and guidance: WSO; Wells Fargo trimmed its target to $38 from $39, MarketBeat), Supernus Pharmaceuticals, down 32.85% to $28.15 (StockAnalysis), and Vertex, down 4.00% to $531.03 even after Monday night's beat (Robinhood close; MarketOne).
